This role is part of our Product & Engineering Department at group level, meaning you’ll collaborate closely with colleagues across countries and contribute to the development of our shared platform. As a result, this position can be filled in Germany or the Netherlands

Your role at Acture

As a Lead Software Engineer at Acture, you’ll combine hands-on development with team leadership. You’ll guide a team of 3-6 engineers while remaining deeply involved in building and improving our platform.

You will:

  • Lead, mentor, and support engineers through regular 1:1s and feedback sessions, fostering both professional and personal growth
  • Drive hiring efforts by conducting technical interviews, making hiring decisions, and onboarding new team members
  • Act as a technical sparring partner within the engineering team through code reviews and pair programming
  • Contribute to architectural decisions that shape the future of the Acture platform
  • Design, build, and ship new features across both backend and frontend
  • Collaborate closely with the VP Engineering to define features and enhance user experience
  • Ensure high-quality releases through testing and QA
  • Work with a modern tech stack including Ruby on Rails, RSpec, Capybara, PostgreSQL, JavaScript, and Tailwind CSS
  • Maintain and improve a clean, efficient, and sustainable codebase

Your profile

You’re a seasoned engineer who enjoys both writing great code and helping others grow.

  • At least 6 years of experience in software engineering, ideally at Staff Engineer level
  • Strong full-stack expertise in Ruby on Rails
  • Bachelor-level thinking and working ability
  • Solid understanding of relational databases (preferably PostgreSQL), MVC frameworks, and TDD
  • Experience with REST APIs, HTML, CSS, and modern JavaScript
  • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies
  • Proven leadership experience—formal or informal (mentoring, onboarding, technical guidance)
  • Passion for clean, maintainable code and thorough testing practices
  • Strong communication skills and fluency in English (C1+)
